Overview: On February 6, 2006, David Strathairn attended the Epic Theatre Center's 5th Annual Gala, where he was honored for his distinguished career in theater and long-time commitment to the Epic Theatre Center. The gala also included a silent auction, singing from Epic member and actress Daphne Rubin Vega, and performances from Epic Theatre high school students. Regarding David's honor with the company, Epic Theatre's founding producer Zak Berkman stated the following:

"...David has been involved with Epic in many capacities since our inception, participating in residencies at our partner schools, performing in workshops and productions of Kate Fodor's Hannah and Martin and my new play, Beauty On the Vine, as well as serving as a vital member of our Nominating Committee, a diverse group of artists helping Epic identify socially-minded plays deserving of greater attention.

"David's eloquent ability to combine politics and art, to tell stories of individuals quietly and passionately navigating their way in society, connects to the heart of Epic's mission. All of Epic's programming, in our classrooms and on our stages, seeks to explore the intersection of the private and the public, and, in turn, spur people of all generations to examine more deeply their roles as citizens. David embodies this constant search and we feel profoundly honored that during this moment in his career such a private man is letting us express our gratitude in such a public way."
