Dates: May 20 - May 21, 2005 (Divine Studio and Museum of the Moving Image, New York, NY)Overview: David Strathairn took part in a retrospective tribute by the North Star Fund, which honored his good friends and frequent collaborators director/writer John Sayles and producer Maggie Renzi. Actors Vanessa Martinez and Leone read selections from Sayles' re-issued book The Anarchists' Convention and Other Short Stories, followed by special remarks from both David and Haskell Wexler. The program also included the premiere of a video tribute to Sayles and Renzi, produced and created by Donnie L. Betts. The following day (May 21) was devoted to screenings and panel discussions of a few of Sayles and Renzi's films at the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. Two of David's films, Matewan and City of Hope, were shown. • "It's a privilege to be associated with an organization that strives to make real and lasting changes that benefit everyone, not just a chosen few. Without North Star and its grantees, New York would most definitely be a less wonderful place." -David Strathairn, 2005 Related Links: North Star Fund (off site) Museum of the Moving Image (off site) |
