Actress Debra Winger (whom David worked with before in the film A Dangerous Woman) and Arlo Guthrie also took part in the event. David read a story by actor Alan Arkin, who was unable to appear at the benefit. The piece was a story about Amazing Randy, the famous magician who has capitalized on poking fun at religion and spirituality. The story tells of Amazing Randy's encounter with Jesus on an airplane. David also read work by a poet friend of his. • [on doing stage readings such as the Guthrie Center event] "When you're reading anything, it's a private experience. So now, I'm reading to you and all of you are having a private experience. Now this is sounding like real poetry." -David Strathairn, 2005 Related Links: The Guthrie Center (off site) Blue Flower Arts & Events (off site) |
