Date: May 12, 2005 (Altman Building, New York, NY)Overview: David Strathairn co-chaired (along with Toby D'Oench, Anne H. Hess and Arva Rice) the 25th Frederick Douglas Awards and Community Gala for the North Star Fund, an organization in which he has been a long-time supporter. Honorees included good friends and frequent collaborators director/writer John Sayles and his life partner, producer Maggie Renzi. Other honorees included donor activist Barbara Winslow, grantee Mothers on the Move and civil liberties activist Anthony Romero. • "It's a privilege to be associated with an organization that strives to make real and lasting changes that benefit everyone, not just a chosen few.
