David was nominated for Best Actor for his critically-acclaimed performance as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, And Good Luck, as well as sharing a nomination for Best Ensemble with the cast. The Best Actor win went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote, and Best Ensemble went to the cast of Crash.David introduced a clip from the film for Best Ensemble and received special mention from Hoffman during his speech. Hoffman began by stating, "And I just was watching these clips, and I love actors, too. Everyone's been saying that tonight, and I loved and have loved the performances of these actors for a long time. And I wanted to say, David Strathairn, I saw you last night, and I wanted to say to you that I looked up to you when I was younger, and I still look up to you. And I think a lot of people in this room feel the same way." At this, there was a huge (and much-deserved) round of applause for David. Related Links: Screen Actors Guild Awards (off site) |
