Notes:
• In Son of the Morning Star, David sports a blonde wig and does all his own horseback riding.
• Republic Pictures briefly considered giving Son of the Morning Star a theatrical release.
• Kevin Costner was initially set to play George Armstrong Custer, and NBC-TV had a "Costner is Custer" advertising campaign all set to go. When Costner was delayed on a film project, Gary Cole stepped into the part at the last minute.
Son of the Morning Star garnered four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Costumes, Makeup, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.
