When the Sheriff Stemkowsky checks him out, he's told Vinnie is an ex-cop that deals with criminals the "old fashioned way". Vinnie accepts a job as a Deputy and prevents Volchek, the head of police, from being shot, and when he tells Vinnie to get rid of the boy that tried to kill him, Vinnie turns him over to Frank to keep him away and pretends he killed him.
